Mediation

In mediation, the people involved in the crime meet. If an agreement is reached through mediation for some less serious crimes, this can lead to a non-prosecution decision. This means that the case will no longer be investigated and it will not go to court. Mediation may also lead to not being sentenced to punishment or it can result in a less serious punishment. If agreement cannot be reached, the prosecutor can prosecute and take the case to court as normal. Even if an agreement has been reached, the prosecutor can prosecute the suspect of the crime. Compensation can also be agreed on in mediation. Participation in mediation is voluntary.
